Sword of Rome

by Douglas Jackson

The story I now commence is rich in vicissitudes, grim with warfare, torn by civil strife, a tale of horror even during times of peace.’ Cornelius Tacitus - The Histories

In the fourth Gaius Valerius Verrens adventure, Valerius is caught up in the maelstrom of the Year of the Four Emperors when Rome is threatened by a merciless civil war. That year is AD 68 and it opens with Nero's bloody and erratic reign in its death throes. Chaos and disaster loom as three different candidates put themselves forward for the Imperial throne. As the opposing forces converge, only one man can save the Empire from disaster. In an epic adventure that will take him the length and breadth of a divided land, the one-armed Roman fights to stay alive and stave off a bloodbath as he is stalked by the most implacable enemy he has ever faced.
